The Yes Men have gained international notoriety for impersonating World Trade Organization spokesmen on international TV and at business conferences around the world.

They describe what they do as Identity Correction. Unlike Identity Theft, which criminals practice with dishonest intent, Identity Correction is the art of impersonating a powerful criminal to publicly humiliate them for conspiring against the public good. Their targets have included big bad bureaucracies like the World Trade Organization, nasty world leaders such as George Bush, ugly right-wing think tanks like The Heritage Foundation, and heartless corporations such as Dow
Chemical.

A great service offered by NAMAC

The National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture (NAMAC) is a nonprofit association that comprises organizations and individuals that want to support independent film, video, audio and online/multimedia arts.
The membership is paid but fees are very modest and entitles you to several services, of which I want to underline - because I just used it... - a Members-Helping-Members program, where you sign-up to look for peers' expertise on the areas you select from 115 areas or offer your own. The areas include many of interest to the net art comunity such as "curating" and "installations preservation".

Check out an excellent text by Nick Montfort: I will try to show that online communities do confer author status upon some types of writers, and that the activity of these writers is not monolithic. Some of it involves programming, markup, design, careful editing and revision; other sorts of authorial activity do not necessarily involve these, but entail keeping current with other online writing and cultivating a community that manifests itself in writing.
