Increasingly, cell phones, internet, TV, and air travel obscure geographical borders; cultural borders come in easily marketable packages. Home becomes an elusive and complex thing. Is it where you were born? Is it something you accessorize? What dangers lie beyond borders? What if you were taken to a place where borders were those only you could create?  Home/Away From Home will take place at The Connelly Theater (220 East 4th St. between A/B) March 10-13.  Shows begin each night at 8pm and tickets can be purchased at the door.  For more info visit www.thecompoundeye.org.

Microsoft has a hard time in the courtroom: "In the case, Eolas and the University of California accused Microsoft of improperly including technology in the Internet Explorer Web browser that allows interactive content to be embedded in a Web site, a common practice on the Internet. Eolas sued Microsoft in 1999; the university later joined the suit."

Dual processors for PCs. Intel starts the race: "While Intel promotes a radical transition to dual-core and quickly ramp its dual-core procesor output across all product lines, AMD believes in providing users a choice of single- and dual-cores, since there - at least for now - not many applications that in fact require dual-core capability."

Apple powerbooks slightly upgraded, with a slightly lower price tag: "Prices start at $1,499 for a model with a 12-inch screen, 1.5 gigahertz processor, a combo DVD reader and CD writer, and a 60 gigabyte hard drive. The priciest model, for $2,699, features a 17-inch screen, 1.67 GHz processor, a souped up DVD-CD burner and a 100-gig drive. Previously, prices ranged from $1,599 to $2,999, with speeds starting at 1 GHz and topping out at 1.33 GHz."

Looking for connections outside the net? How about radiowaves from outerspace? "The bursts over a seven-hour period from Sept. 30 to Oct. 1, 2002 came from the direction of the middle of the Milky Way galaxy, of which Earth is a part, and could have originated from as far away as 24,000 light-years or from as close as 300 light-years."

Taking on everything including criticism, Google now offers reviews of website: "The local reviews will mimic those Google added in its shopping search site, Froogle. Within Google Local, the reviews include a red, yellow or green icon to indicate if a review was negative or positive."

What's on e-bay these days? Tawny Peaks, a former stripper living in Florida decided to sell one of the silicon implants she had removed in 1999. She claims to have decided to sell the prosthetic after listening to an argument on the radio about the strage things that are sold on e-bay: "¿Por qué no? (...) Ya no los necesito”, dijo Tawny Peaks, quien firmará el implante para el ganador de la subasta, pero guardará el otro de recuerdo."

Yahoo is ten years old. Like many things on the web back in the day, it was started as a hobby. The site was called Jerry's Guide but eventually changed its name to Yahoo!: "En un principio la página se llamó “Jerry's Guide to the World Wide Web” (Guía de Jerry de la World Wide Web), pero pronto cambió de nombre.

Cellular phones no longer need a password, just your face. Cell phones are now capable of recognizing the face of their owner. This new feature is meant to supplant the password: "El programa OKAO Vision Face Recognition Sensor reconoce los rostros de las imágenes captadas con la cámara del teléfono celular, vinculando el rostro del dueño para activar al aparato. "

Looking for a new Yo-yo? How about one that stores back-up files for you? or simply can help you take it from one place to another. A new pocket hardrive can connote playfulness while being useful for the person on the go: "Les apparences sont parfois trompeuses. Un disque dur peut ainsi être "ludique". Ainsi, le Pocket Hard Drive de Seagate est un gadget high-tech au design amusant. Son câble USB vient s’enrouler autour de sa base sphérique comme le ferait le fil d’un yo-yo."

Sony releases a walkman phone that plays mp3s: "Based on the firm's best-selling personal stereos, the handset features an MP3 digital music player as well as a high quality digital camera."

Jef Raskin, the man responsible for the way the Mac looks and feels has died. Being a person with a vision, he apparently defied Steve Jobs: "Apple co-founder (and now CEO) Steve Jobs initially hated Raskin's proposal for a computer for the "person in the street". But after he was kicked off the Lisa project, Jobs joined and then took over Raskin's Macintosh project – turning it into a fully fledged product-development effort. Raskin resigned."

If you thought becoming invisible might be a thing for science fiction books, think again: " Electronic engineers at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia are researching a device they say could make objects "nearly invisible to an observer." The contrivance works by preventing light from bouncing off the surface of an object, causing the object to appear so small it all but disappears."

SPAM filters may become a problem. Some legitimate e-mails may never make it to your box and this appears to be beyond your control; in short, know your settings: "Muchos de los correos no deseados terminan simplemente en carpetas de basura que los destinatarios nunca verifican, pero hay veces que los proveedores del servicio rechazan tales mensajes desde el principio, lo que significa que ni siquiera los destinatarios tienen algún control para modificar los filtros que verifican sus mensajes."

Internet advertising expected to triple in the next four years, as people appear to be spending more time online instead of watching TV, listening to the radio, or reading newspapers: "Según explica, el fuerte crecimiento de las conexiones de banda ancha y del comercio electrónico en toda Europa refleja que los consumidores están dedicando cada vez más tiempo a Internet en detrimento de otros medios como la televisión, la radio o los periódicos."

Does your cell-phone have a bluetooth craving? MCA may be serving just the right dish to make sure your network needs are met: "MCA propose ainsi une solution utile et complète aux possesseurs de téléphones mobiles équipés de la technologie sans fil Bluetooth. Elle existe également en versions infrarouge et USB."
